DESCRIPTION

It is the Ancient Theater of the Archaeological Site of Ilida, where various performances take place every summer during the International Festival of Ilida. Its permanent stone stage construction is one of the oldest. It preservesone of the oldestscenes (beginning of the 3rd century BC), the facade of whichwasdecoratedwithsemi-colonies. Large hole salong the stylo bate allowed placement of scenes. Behind the spot lightwere the various spacious apartments of the stage and its sides behind the scenes. he original circular orchestra was limited by the construction of an elongated tank that drove rainwater through an older pipeline to Pinios. Its construction was obviously combined with the saving of a rectangular space in front of the stage building and the arrangement of a logic for the needs of the New Comedy. Near the theater is mentioned by Pausanias the existence of a sanctuary of Dionysus (6, 26, 1).
