DESCRIPTION

It is located near the mainsquare of the city, where the Municipal Market usedtobe and occupiesan entire building block. It is a typical example of neoclassical Renaissance with Romanelements. It is a work of the German architect Ernesto Ziller and functioned in the early 1890s as a Municipal Market. In the first years of its operation, the market was wooden, and later the construction of the new municipa lmarket began. Today the archaeological museum hosts wonderful exhibits that present the whole range of the Illyrian history. The Archaeological Museum of Pyrgos is one of the greatest works in the modern history of the city, the most imposing for the city of Ilia, as visitors can admire an amazing architectural structure, an impressive exhibition space that is characterized as a real “jewel”. It has three internal atriums, the central part protruding from the lateral ones, which end up in distinct angular volumes. At the ground floor the exhibition grounds are housed. At the first floor there are the office of scientific staff, the library, the reading room, the sanitary facilities and the meeting room, while the exhibition areas of the Museum are visible from the passages of this floor. Also at the basement level is the large conference and conference room.
