DESCRIPTION

On 6-10-1957 the testament of Christos Papachristopoulos was written in English, in America and on 19-10-1964 is was translated in Greek where the bequest was $ 30,000 for housing the library in a privately owned building. It was built in the area where the inactive Electricity Company was, in a municipal park with trees and concrete corridors and was inaugurated in 1967 after being enriched with a host of books by donations of local and foreign people. Today it has about 16,000 book titles. In 1972, in an open meeting of 80 people, it was considered necessary to amend the association’s statutes and renamed to Papachristopoulos Library of Amaliada. Besides the legacy of Christos Papachristopoulos, the library was not funded, so at the request of the association and after an agreement it came to the property of the Municipality. During the period 1991-1996 the reading room was organized and it was possible to connect it with the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the Ministry of National Education and Religious Affairs, the National Book Center and the libraries of the prefecture of Ilia. Equally important is her cultural activity directed at the audience of Amaliada and the students.
